“A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.”
Over the last few weeks, we have unfortunately witnessed tragic, senseless, and most importantly preventable gun violence and it’s only getting worse in major cities across the country. With these events, we have seen House and Senate Democrats come out swinging against law abiding gun owners, the NRA, and conservatives as a whole. We cannot allow the actions of criminals and terrorists lead to the restrictions of our Second Amendment rights given to us in the United States Constitution.
People fear the Second Amendment because it is a cornerstone of liberty in this country — the right to keep and bear arms has been a fundamental part of American DNA since long before our Founding Fathers signed the Declaration of Independence. Today, the anti-gun hysteria is reaching new heights. The blatant hypocrisy associated with Congressional Democrats actively calling for a ban on “military-style assault rifles” while they gladly accept the protection of military-style assault rifles at the United States Capitol should scare the American People.
They can’t even agree on a definition of what an “assault rifle” really is.
The anti-gun message has lead President Joe Biden to push for a gun tax. Not only is this a direct infringement of our rights under the Second Amendment but we all know where this road leads to: taxation leads to registration, registration leads to confiscation, and confiscation leads to tyranny. Let’s be perfectly clear, gun rights are equal rights. It gives women, minorities, senior citizens, vulnerable member of society, and any American that wants protection, the ability to protect themselves. A common misconception is that the Second Amendment was written so we could go hunting — it was written so that the American People could defend themselves in the event a tyrannical government rose to power in our country.
The Founding Fathers wisely included the Second Amendment in the Bill of Rights, which guarantees, "The right of the people to bear and keep arms” with an emphasis on “shall not be infringed." This fundamental freedom protects the rights of gun owners and restrains the presence of criminal activity and most importantly, tyranny.
Gun control isn’t about the guns, it’s about the control and without the Second Amendment, the rest will fall.
